Heh... I bet you had your fair share of hot shot pilots doing crazy stuff to guys like you strapped in your seats. We wanna hear some of your stories....Stikpusher wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 11:48 pmHats off to such a pilot! I’ve flown on one way trips with some hot dog C-130 and UH-60 pilots, but never something quite that hairy.jeaton01 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 11:21 pm Carlos, for a time I flew with a fellow who got to participate in that as a B-47 pilot. He told me that at a certain point at higher speeds the ailerons would cause those thin wing tips to twist, making the ailerons ineffective, or worse, the twist would cause the airplane to roll in the opposite direction. The solution was to add in rudder in the direction of roll and stop adding additional aileron. Something that might add to the stress of practice, eh?

Re: 1/72 Hasegawa B-47E
I've been working on this one slowly, it requires a lot of patience, due to the aftermarket stuff I am using to make the model more interesting. I have added the Pavla resin cockpit and engine sets, and a 3d printed flap set which has been rather interesting. A lot of cutting was necessary for the wings as the 3d set replaces the flaps. The lower wing skins get the flap areas cut out which was a little interesting because Hasegawa missed the outline in some spots, and also the trailing edge of the upper wing gets some trimming because the flaps make up some of the upper trailing edge. As you can see all the ribs and stringers in the exposed part of the wing are also supplied, and were very fragile, making clean-up interesting, as well as fitting.
The Pavla engine parts were not much of an improvement over the Hasegawa parts, I won't use those if I build another B-47 as the Hasegawa parts are pretty good. The cockpit is a big improvement, however getting it fit correctly was difficult. Not a lot will be seen through the small cockpit opening, but enough to be worth it, especially if you want to have the crew door open as Hasegawa just left a big open space there.

Lots of detail John. You're right, can't see much in the pit once buttoned up.

great work! Another favorite a/c of mine.

I'll bet John! Bet that was almost as fun as masking a Ju-188 canopy !
