The Turtle - Monogram 1/48 P-47D

Post by Stuart »

So for my first build of 2023 I'm going to take a stab at Monograms classic P-47 kit - as I've never actually built a Thunderbolt. This is only the 2nd 1/48 Monogram kit I've ever built and I know how you guys hold these things dear, so I'll try to do it justice.

Here's the kit, I picked it up a couple of years ago - I just love this scheme.

This isn't going to be the quickest of builds, as I have to do my Tax Return this month, but I'm looking forward to getting started.

edit: I'm going to build it OOB but I was wondering about some AM gun barrels - I'll have to see what I can find.

Cheers!

So, c’mon. Pictures and updates. Hubba, hubba!

Stuart, all you need is some tubing. The P-47 had solid tubes around its’ .50’s, not perforated jackets. No need for anything than basic metal tubing.

Thanks for the tip Carlos. I think the LMS up the road from me sells metal tubing so I'll get some from there. Actually I do need some anyway, to repair the Jaguar's brok nose gear.

I have that kit. It slipped and dropped on the hard floor at my bench. A few pieces went snap and now I gotta get another. :bag: At least I’ll be able to salvage the checkered cowl.
