My wife found this in our back yard?

Curious if anyone has any idea what it might be. Sure looks like some sort of slugs in an iron casing.
We're not far from Luke AFB... old bomb fragment?

Gist pic looks a bit like rivets. How thick is the rusty piece?

It doesn’t look like a bomb fragment. Those are usually all steel, but can have things like ball bearings embedded in the casing.
Not to mention that our area was not a bombing range for Luke. Those are further south. Not that a passing aircraft could jettison ordnance in the case of an in flight emergency while headed to the bombing ranges, but…

Well I think it came in with the semi full of decorative rock when we had the backyard landscaped.
I got the calipers out and the slugs are 12.7 mm or 50 cal. Curious

tcoat over on MSC thinks its part of a drill bit. Makes sense. There goes my backyard history museum...

They do not look like any .50 cal. ordnance that I know of... certainly not belt fed stuff for a Ma Deuce, disintegrating metal links or cloth belted .
