Junkers Ju-52 - 1:72 Airfix

So a new project I hope I will finish still this year, as it will require some research as well as combining an ultra new kit with parts from another kit where the original tooling is close to 50 years old (from 1977).

Image

So, it will not be an out-of-box build, nope it will be transformed into a civilian aircraft. And not only that, but I will try to make it to the float version, by kit bashing an old Revell kit ( that should ”land” in my mail box still later this week).

Image

I made also an order from Arctic Decals:
Unsure if the canopy/window masks will fit the new Airfix kit, if so, that will be a bonus.
I’m after the decals nevertheless (or the painting masks).

Will nevertheless be a challenging task, but I will not hurry with the build.

I’m so used to seeing Ju-52s in warpaint, that I forget that they also first flew for Lufthansa. :hmm: Like the Condor

Indeed!
Aeros first Ju-52 (OH-ALK, named "Sampo") was delivered in 1932 and 1st of July 1932 it started it regular flights between Helsinki and Stockholm.

The cabine looked then like this in 1932:

And 4 years later, when the 2nd Ju-52 (OH-ALL, "Kaleva", the role model of my build) entered the service 14th of July, the passenger cabine started to look rather comfortable

:hmm: The 1936 cabin does indeed look more comfortable than the 1932 cabin. Not to mention the art deco elegance of the era that is incorporated into the trimmings. Thanks for that peek into the past Kari!
