Nice! Very nice!LyleW wrote:Ain't a gonna spend money on whitewalls...yet. I had a great idea! Yeah, you know where this is going.
I cut the whitewalls out of whte decal paper. Worked great. Except You could not place them without them balling up. Almost had one in place and POOF.
So, I simply left it on the backer paper and used CA to glue it to the wheel.
What do you think?

Hi Lyle,
I hope you are doing well. I like your idea to use a white decal with a backing very much. Perhaps an additional move could be a light coat of UV Flat Clear (not the liquid floor polish) over the entire completed wheel to help as a stabilizing/protective measure? Certainly, the hard edges of your cut out look the part and hold up under scrutiny. I see two small areas of silver to be touched up, but otherwise an innovative use of a decal.

Thanks for the kind words. I will put something on them. I have some semi gloss. I think I am happy with it, but, there are three wheels to go!

Always happy to laud your efforts, Lyle. I have learned a lot from watching you tackle classic plastic kits. I think it’s important to have a foundation somewhere - in car kits, military vehicles or aircraft - which includes an older kit. I think it’s essential from the perspective of understanding how to finish a project in stages. Personally, older kits are strong because they are simplified and early instructions are to my experience easier to follow than their modern equivalents. Exceptions for me are Aviattic, Copper State Models, Eduard, Tamiya and WnW. I have a Meng Fokker which I would love to build (based on WnW patterns) but the instructions and design flourishes are difficult to follow and a bit “tricksy” to execute.
Don’t sweat the next three. You can do it.

Lyle.... I’ve got a set of 4 whitewall tires if you want them that I’ll never use. They came from the ‘57 Ford kit I’m working on.
