Should be a great afternoon!
Should be a great afternoon!
Upstairs, there is a "baby adoption" shower going on. I have been sent to the basement with the grandkids....My grandson, Kelsay, has a wooden airplane kit he got somewhere and insisted on bringing it so we could build it! I am a lucky Paw Paw to be sure.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Re: Should be a great afternoon!
I'm guessing a family member had adopted a child/baby and celebrating it like a baby shower per say.

You are a lucky man indeed with that.

A "shower" can be an other word for a party, usually where you get/give gifts. There are baby showers and bridal showers.Thomas_M wrote:Help a German buddy: what on earth is a baby adoption shower???
There is even a Wiki entry on it:

Anyway, have fun Lyle! It is always nice to build something together. I have very fond memories building aircraft together with my late grandfather.
The model will crash during a mock dog fight but the memories will stay for ever.

Borg, thanks for making me smarter! A great community here, whatever you may ask there is someone to help you!
Re: Should be a great afternoon!
Well, we both use English as a second language, so I can understand why you could be confused by the word "shower". We only learn the word "shower" for the one you use to wash with...Thomas_M wrote:Borg, thanks for making me smarter! A great community here, whatever you may ask there is someone to help you!
Over here in the Netherlands we call the shower a "douche", much like the german "dusche". One advice, never use that word in the US!
"I really need a douche." could lead to al sorts of hillarity and miscommunication.

Well in US English, that term has two meanings: 1) a feminine hygiene product, and 2) a derogatory term for an individual referencing them as part of that product. So it can be used in conversation... but carefully...
