1/32 Special Hobby Hawker Tempest Mk V
Re: 1/32 Special Hobby Hawker Tempest Mk V
Although I tend to represent rivets on all of my 1/32 builds, even the ones that were supposed to have been puttied, I do think some aircraft wear the rivets better than the others. For example, in my opinion, the Fw 190D-9 looks best when modeled with rivets. Not sure about the Tempest at this stage but it is adding a rough and tough sort of edge to this build.

I say go for it, John. Looking at mine I see plenty of area for some character.

Ha! I don't know if I would describe the kit's contents as fat, goofy and poor but I guess there was room for improvement. I debated trying to incorporate the Barracuda nose since it is slightly narrower at the prop base than the SH kit but since the dry-fitting of the resin engine went well without need for any fuselage thinning, I thought it would be do-able. I've gotten encouragement from Anthony Galbraith to go for it so the Barracuda Nose set has been ordered. And there have been some other builds that have managed to fit the two together so hopefully it works out!
I didn't know you were building the PCM Tempest until the GB conversation started and I saw it in there. I'll try to follow although I don't venture into the GB section too frequently.

John,
I am looking forward to how you approach this project. Roy was speaking off the cuff but he does have the credentials to back up his thoughts on the subject (and measurements being off at that scale as well indicate careful study). I will photograph the PCM contents soon. I hope you will follow along (also Kari’s 1:48 Tempest is very refreshing) but understand your thoughts re Group Builds.

Nah! I'm really not in a rush. Just cleaning up the fuselage and wings will take me the rest of this week. But thanks!

I do really appreciate Sprue Brothers service. They sent my last supplies by Fed Ex, beautifully packaged. However I have ordered from Barracuda and expect your order will be filled quickly as well.

I've bought lots of stuff from both Sprue Brothers and Barracuda and they both have good customer service. Sprue Brothers is usually faster though.
Tonight was spent cleaning up the starboard fuselage side. I just trudged along, section after section, pushing my needle into all of rivet locations.

Fuselage clean-up is finished!

Did I mention that I bought this kit second-hand? There was one broken piece that was politely taped to a post-it for my attention as an unidentified fragment. I track that down tonight to one of the two canopy rails (Part 38). It actually managed to snap into three separate pieces.

One thing I noticed when I started gluing the broken canopy rail back to together is that the kit plastic reacts VERY well to Tamiya Extra Thin cement. I'm going to let the first join dry before completing the repair tomorrow.
