Part 4
Spitfire Mk.IX Cockpit Walk-around
Text [abridged] by Martin Waligorski
Photos by Phillip Treweek
Courtesy IPMS Stockholm
Pilot’s headrest and protective armor plate.
Entry door with prominent escape crowbar.
Cockpit almost in original condition except for the modern seat cushion and some radio wiring beside it. Note that there is no solid cockpit floor, but only two moving circular bars connected to the rudder pedals in the front.
Another view showing the spade grip-style stick. The button on top of the grip is the compound gun trigger, serving both cannon and machine gun armament. Mounted to the horizontal fuselage frame on the cockpit sidewall is the throttle control (the item with the red handle).
Instrument panel in original condition.
Thanks, IPMS Stockholm!

Thanks, Kari. At this scale—with this vintage kit—it may be quite easy for things to go awry, though! I remain hopeful as this is early days yet.KSaarni wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 4:27 pm Good choice Bruce,

Happy Holidays and thanks for visiting! I’m supposed to receive a cockpit and spinner tonight. I will take photos if so!

Nice, I haven't built this kit since the 80's. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with the cockpit; does it come with a vacforn canopy? You'll be hard pressed to see any of that AM through the kit plastic.

Thanks for visiting, bud. Good point about a canopy. I have a couple options here—a Squadron vac canopy, a newly released Barracuda canopy or the marginally clearer 2005 retool of the same kit. I was going to try Roy’s version and suggestion to show the canopy pushed back!
