Digital tools to help with your models??

Post by scorpiomikey »

I was reading a couple of posts about colour matching and it got me thinking about the tools I use not at the bench.

For paint matching i often use an app on my phone called Hobby Color Converter. It allows me to find an FS number, or a paint number, or whatever im looking at and convert it to a near match with whatever brand of paints im looking at. It has a massive database behind it, and its all very visual and super useful.

So im wondering what, if anything, you lot use to help you in the day to day of model building that's not a physical tool?

I use paint4models. It gives you a wide range of Federal Standard colors matching with paint brand company from Testors, PollyScale, Tamiya, and everything in between.

I can’t honestly say that I have any one stop covers all site for hobby help. Scalemates tends to handle many of my kit related queries, but beyond that it’s Google and wherever the ensuing answers take me.

An inevitable rabbit hole of info. An hour later you ask - wait what was I looking up :giggles: :giggles: I enjoy it.

Bad part is I usually buy something unrelated to what I was originally looking for

Ha!!! Ain't that the truth. Same here. Often times I ask myself, why I buy this? Oh well... another one to the stash. LOL!

I use an app called "Model Colors" for all my paint needs.

I tried finding more info on it but from what I’m understanding it’s an app to keep track of what paint brand you have in stash rather than a paint brand cross reference converter.

Seems like there's a few paint apps, and a few stash apps, and google?
I wonder if there's a market for something like a details/accuracy app? Maybe with the ability to take a photo of a part that maybe doesn't look right and it can bring back photos or images to help correct it?
