Monogram Razorback Progress

A bit of work on the Razorback. Engine face done. I swear, I love these once piece engines. You can have your Magic Factory Thunderbolts! Now, Why did I waste these PE seat belts on this junky Kit cockpit? To have fun I guess. I think it looks cool. And yes, I did not even bother removing the molded in belts!

One piece is all you need! And I think those PE belts look great - the only reason I didn't use them in my build is because I painted the pilot.

It's a sweet kit the Monogram P-47 (their Typhoon is really nice too). I'd love to get a Razorback to go with the SEAC marked bubble top I did a few years ago. My only problem with them is that in the UK it's actually cheaper to buy the classic Tamiya kit that it is the Monogram.

Still state of the art in my book !

I mentioned a while back of doing an airplane and only assembling the fuselage(leaving the Wings and Gear off). Sort of building it profile style —build that I could sit on a shallow shelf.
Well, this might be the kit for it. You see the fuselage appears to have developed a slight twist towards the tail over the years … not really noticeable until you put the wings on… so I might need to do some forced perspective here

Well to be fair, I was referring to classic it in it's 'awesomeness' meaning rather than it's age LOL!

Here is an update on my Razorback. Trying to get the fuselage all painted and decaled. Tamiya OD Green over Mr Color Neutral Grey.

The kits are almost identical except for the fuselage /canopy parts. The HS prop in the bubble top kit looks much more the part IMO than the 12' toothpick prop in the Razorback kit. I would say the propeller is the main drawback of the razorback kit. I did my best with sanding sticks to refine the shape of the prop blades but a replacement prop from the Tamiya or Otaki kit would be a good choice. There are other minor diffs in the kit. The bubble top gives you the pancake drop tank and you get a pretty horrible paper 110 gallon tank in the razorback kit. The later also gives you bazooka rocket tubes which I never use.

Actually, the Razorback was a newer mold and supposedly slightly more accurate. From what I’ve read, it’s mostly about the alignment of the guns on the wing. I’ve never compared the two kits.
