Dodge 3/4 Ton WC-51

Post by Stikpusher »

I should have posted this last week after I start it at AMPS on the 8th, but I didn’t take photos until yesterday. This is the Testors-Italeri rebox of the mid 1970’s vintage Max kit. It has parts so you can make either the WC-51 or WC-52, the difference being a front bumper mounted winch on the WC-52. Anyways, I decided to go with the WC-51 version. Aside from clean up of mold ejector pin marks and mold seam lines, this is a pretty simple straightforward kit so far. I built the M6 GMC/WC-55 version long ago, but have zero memory of any issues with assembly on that one. So after roughly three hours work at the AMPS meeting, I have perhaps 2/3 of the main assembly completed.

Once I get my current F-16 project wrapped up, I’ll knuckle down on this one…

Oh nice! Last year, I saw the same kit at the Electic Chic Antique mall and had debated on picking it up. I passed on it. :bag: :giggles:

Thanks guys! This should be a straight forward project.

Tom, this kit is worth a shot of you don’t have to pay too much. It’s been reissued by Zvezda and Italeri since Testors boxed it. There is also the Slybow/AFV Club kit of the subject, and a recent new tool unrelated kit by Zvezda. So plenty of options for you if you want one.

I’ll keep an eye out next time I head out there. I usually go 2 or 3 times a year - early spring, summer, and winter.

I built the Peerless Max WC-62 a long time ago. It was done like one we had when I was a flea and I used to love driving it around hauling water to the drilling rigs.

(Great looking build that John).

A cool subject Carlos and you're off to a good start.

If funny that you started this at AMPS. Twenot, which is the Dutch equivalent of AMPS, is having a classic Italeri group build on their (sadly Ducth speaking) Forum - the idea being you have to build it as if it were the 80s' - and I think there is at least one of these in the GB. Their work is excellent.

Thanks for the link Stuart. Too bad they just show thumbnails on the site.

John, that’s a nice looking WC-62. I have one of those to build also. But of course it will be in US Army WWII colors.
