Thanks guys!

Stuart, Patton is a fascinating study of a man. I’ve read his autobiography and a few books about him. Calling him complex is an understatement. But like you said about Monty, he was the right man in the right place at the right time.
The Torch landings were indeed a monumental operation, considering that several division sailed directly across the Atlantic to North Africa, and at a time when the U-Boat peril in the Atlantic was at its peak. Not to mention active opposition by the French land and naval forces. In some locations, the French put up a better fight and inflicted more losses on the landing forces than the Germans did in Normandy. And then the other half of the assault force sailed from the UK, through Gibraltar, and then to the Algerian Mediterranean coast and ports for landings. Much could and did go wrong. Until airfields ashore were captured, and aircraft flown in to those, the only air support was carrier based. And carriers were a very limited asset in late 1942.

Tom, you’re gonna enjoy that kit. It’s supposed to be better detailed than the one that I’m building now. Both types use the same chassis and cab, but have a different rear body set up. The WC family was the HMMWV family of WWII. Dodge did it right with them! Nice to see that the kit you’re getting has Patton’s personal set up with the added .50 cal. and siren. Now you’re gonna need a Patton figure to go with it. :stirpot:

It’s really cool to read a bit of context here as well! Stuart, having just read An Army at Dawn (1942-1943) by Rick Atkinson I have the deepest respect for the coordinated efforts of British commanders with their American colleagues. This was not an easy alliance but it did become one; it’s hard reading summaries of last stands by soldiers but it does put into perspective the cost of lives lost.

I read that Patton wanted to beat Monty to Messina. He did succeed. :giggles: Patton hated Monty too.

I didn’t know that about Patton, Tom. I do know my grandfather had a very strong reaction to watching the movie about him. That’s really the only time I can recall my grandfather who served in the KAR, 1st and 93rd Argylle & Sutherland disagreeing with his actions - it’s in the scene with the soldier with PTSD. My grandfather came out of his chair when he saw that scene. I’ve always considered my grandfather to be a gentle man who never had a bad thing to say about anyone, but he was fighting mad when he saw that scene. Also he was reacting from his own experience and not as someone who read about war history. As far as I know the only history he read was about the formation of England.

Beautiful work! The details make the difference! Wondering about the I think it’s a blanket on the hood—is it? How did you texture this?

Bruce, that was a fantastic book! As were the remaining two in Atkinson’s WWII trilogy.

:pod: :pod: :pod: :nono: HELL NO on a Patton remake! The current crop of film makers would destroy the story. You cannot top the level of the 1970 film. Aside from the substitution of then current tanks in the film, it was as good as a war movie of that type can get. I don’t think that there is a current actor out there today who could play Patton.

Bruce that is made with Miliput rolled flat on a cutting mat with a wooden dowel. I’m not sure of any texture is from the mat side or the dowel side. Not to mention that I used a water moistened finger to smooth out any major texture problems…
