Hey, Stuart! Thanks for looking in

Not much to see, or progress made. Those tiny winches ( as opposed to tiny stenches) are very frustrating. Stuff breaking when you cut it loose, etc. easy to lose some of the pieces…I’m just cobbling something up from scrap sprue and moving on.

Nothing yet today. Had an eye doc appt this morning. My eyes are finally returning to almost normal. The fine Commonwealth of Kentucky decided last year that anyone over 70 must pass ab eye exam to renew their drivers license. I’m due to renew in June. Passed with room to spare!

Congratulations on successfully passing, Lyle! With all that you’re handling at the moment, a win is good! You’re in my thoughts and prayers. I’m sure everyone of a certain age has been through a few experiences but I’m really hoping for the most positive outcome possible. Having been caregiver and representative for multiple relatives despite no one except my Uncle Earl supporting my career choices (bless you, Earl) I received an early taste of both Pennsylvania’s health care system as well as more recently Florida’s version, which frankly required a full time/full court press to navigate.

Thanks, Bruce.

Even better, you can be certified if you pass in year leading up to the renewal.

I dont think NYS requires an eye exam for senior citizens when renewing drivers license.

Before we begin, anyone care to guess what happened here?

Well, all the 10 wenches, err winches, are in place. Sort of. I sweat, I carefully detached a few parts at a time and placed them in portion cups. O did not knock ‘em over or dump them out. Yet, I was short on parts, some were cut incorrectly (should not have letDusty help. He has cataracts.). Anyway, I plowed ahead, used some sprue doo-dads that I glued to try to cover the most gaping empty spots.

Now the real fun begins. I’ve reached the first parts that have PE additions. The parts look much larger on thr instructions.

Doing one hatch at a time. Got the kit detail sanded.

Yes, those very tiny attach points came apart when bent.

I’ll try reattaching after the hatch is installed.

Hi Lyle. I believe you’re dealing with a glue or thinner spill here! It’s happened to us all, or at least let me hasten to add, it’s definitely happened to me! I wiped out an entire table top once upon a time and two three weeks ago I spilled glue on the edge of my table and more recently than that I tube glued and melted the finish of my Sopwith Camel which required a total sand/polish/spray job to fix. It’s part of the production process.

Now on to the photo etch—why not try using PVA glue or a gel CA? I’m assuming what you’re using is very thin. I found that PVA will effectively bond most plastics and brass strips, I’ve even used PVA to bond white metal parts. You just need to adjust the patience level to the setting time of white glue. I find PVA to be much easier to temporarily tack parts together; follow up with a dot of superglue to perfect the adhesion.

Yup. A fairly new bottle of Tamiya Extra Thin. Did that this morning.

The piece that is glued in place used thin CA. This was an easy piece to place. I plan on using PVA for trickier pieces. I was a bit miffed that the grid potion came off. I have some thick CA, but no gel CA. I’ve never used thar. Just moseying (?) along with a cheerful heart. I spent too much on the PE!

Expensive option: Starbond medium thick CA. Cheap option: Loctite's Gel Control Super Glue in the bottle where you squeeze the sides. It's pretty thick, so it's not always the best option.
