This one is kit #2 of the last 2 kits to do for the summer (after Foxy Box van). I did the exact same kit as a kid and am lucky to acquire this one for another go-around.
The engine is partially done. Color will be Metallic Black of the Extreme Lecquer line and red interior.
Did I mention how much I love Monogram kits???

Metallic black is out the door. Even used Duplicolor rattle can Metallic Black. Nope. Both looked like it’s a greyish black metallic in color. Stripped it down and went with straight up black.
Engine is just about done except to paint the fan belt on the blower and install the headers (painted flat header white). Next, is paint the interior red.

Do-over builds are always a fun time. Good luck. Can't wait to see it done!

The only real way to get good 'scale' correct black metallic is paint it black then add mica powder to the clear and spray that. This looks correct and you can choose the mica color you add. Silver, gold or whatever. Mica is cheap, but you need to AB it too. So there is that. Otherwise, like you said, scale flakes look huge on the car to see them usually.

If you can't fix it with duct tape, you're not using enough duct tape.
