As much as I wanted to finish this build... but I've run out of patience for a kit that requires more faith than engineering...

So back in the box it goes, waiting for better times... though I doubt this Fokker will ever see the light of day again.

Time to find the next project!

I’m sorry to read that you’re sidelining this one Kari. It looks to be taking shape well enough and getting to the point when the finish line is coming into focus.

You’re an outstanding model builder as well as a human being so I completely respect your decision to stop. However, I am in two minds about the decision to box away this kit for all time. I would hope that you would reconsider and revisit this subject at some point, perhaps using the kit as a test for your skill set?

I believe most if not all of the model builders who are part of this forum share an affinity for building rare kits of unique subjects. This choice is not often the case in general. If one opens most model building groups online, one sees the usual suspects in their usual fashion built by both novice and expert; but here we see builders choosing late war and interwar subjects as well as fantasy and scifi kits without prejudice. It’s up to the taste of the individual to make the choice.

There are definite common denominators of choice here for you, and a depth of research that means a most satisfying experience for everyone. I am sad to see this kit go. I truly am. It was a great subject let down by fit and QC issues, but I also know that you would have conquered everything and given this a superior finish.

Keep building. Find your next subject and take it on with the same affinities you’ve brought to all of your work.

Thanks all for the support! I think where it all went wrong was that the bottom wings should have been angled more upwards. There was no real indication or clear information about that in the so called "instruction" sheet. As I'm not that experienced with biplane builds, the combination of a 1/72 scale short-run kit, inexperience, and a very fiddly construction... well, the result is what it is or was.

Technically, I could try to saw the bottom wings off and adjust their angle to be more accurate. But no, I can use that time for something else as well.
But if I ever find this kit at a convention or expo, I'll definitely pick up a fresh one—lessons learned for the next time regarding this Fokker. I like it, I like the looks a lot.

My hunger to build a biplane remains! I just need to play it safe, so the next build will be a 1/48 scale Fokker D.VII OAW by Eduard in Finnish Air Force camo from the 1920s. I have decals for two different planes, this is the one, the I.D 357



The box may arrive on Monday, probably only on Tuesday.. Let's see

Postage would probably be too much though to consider that. too bad. I hate seeing as kit get shuffled off to the dark corners of the closet....

Indeed, the postage costs would be rather high (I checked). Otherwise, it's a sort of an intriguing idea!
