That’s some really spiffy work, Chris!

Chris, I would delineate the uneven nature of the metal surface of the petals a little, but the interior surface coloration beyond is incredibly close to the original. It has a soft, burnished quality akin to the

I see the petals as having different tones, that would relate to maneuvering them during use.

Yup! You can mix your own by adding some brown to Testors enamel 1/4 oz bottle of Steel

I appreciate all the input on painting the engine output fellas. :giggles: I am not sure I am up for all the work though. We will see. Right now I just want to get a good base color. I think the first thing is to not base coat it with gloss black, but something lighter. Mabye a dark grey or a dark or medium-dark brown/red-brown. Then apply some shade of alclad and I will go from there. I am not sure what is more challenging--Painting a 1/72 A6M Zero canopy or Painting a TF-30 Afterburner. Well at least with a canopy you can get away with a single color :hmm: .

Honestly, I paint almost all of my modern jet exhausts that color, "Jet Exhaust". It looks pretty spot on for most jets and I'll add a dark wash and be done with it. That's for the outside anyway.

On my last afterburner I tried something different. Vallejo Glaze medium with back gray on the petals and glaze medium with a blue over the rear fan. Both glazes were done over a base of Tamiya gun metal.

I was trying to replicate this look

I think it came out ok.

I use the Vallejo Jet exhaust too - but I'm not really an authority on these things.... in fact when was the last time I built anything with an afterburner? :hmm:

As an aside - I love that F-16 photo Carlos, that was such a cool scheme!
