Albatros radiator

Post by lawman56 »

I finally did it. After three sanity losing, eye ball straining weeks, I finished my HGW photo etch radiator. The actuating rod will actually open and close them. I have no idea why I feel the need to hurt my brain doing these things, but oh well!

Here's the same radiator after being given an initial painting with Model Master Steel and mounted into it's wing recess.

Now I can start picking up speed! At least until I get to the rigging.......

Oh my goodness! That is a magnificent piece of PE work. However, it would have easily exceeded the limits of my medication! Well done sir.

You did this because you could do it! You saw the challenge and you succeeded! It is the satisfaction and the pride having "won" that now makes you happy.

Congrats to this masterly job!

Thanks for all the kind words! :D Of course I lost the stupid actuator handle, (can't blame the "carpet monster" I actually watched it fly into oblivion after I squeezed it a bit too hard  ), so I scratchbuilt one out of brass rod and styrene. Not too shabby, but will look better once painted.

I'm not too skilled in scratchbuilding yet. Most of my previous work had been for my HO railroad, and this is a major step up in scale! Although, so far, this Albatross has required my to create, not only that handle, but a set of 3 switches using tiny screws and bent brass rod.

And to think, I still have rigging to play with yet!

Doing a WNW kit coming from HO railroad is quite a challenge. But I see you have fun doing it, and you are doing great! :)

"Necessity is the Mother if Invention!" or so they have said! Nice work. Impressive.
