I always used to bring back outrigger canoe models that had a cloth sail... very Hawaiian.

As promised, here is a short update with the painted throttle assembly. The decals are from Barracuda's cockpit stencil sheet... very impressed with how legit it makes the assembly look. The white glue knobs look more like blobs but I may or may not do anything about them at this point.




Added the stitched beading around the padded headrest using stretched sprue.



Thinking ahead to the engine, I use a piece of coiled wire to cut me those curved oil lines that go on each cylinder head.

I am in awe of the throttle quadrant. That is great detail. The headrest beading - great tip. I would never have thought of that.

Truly incredible work, John! I am in a sort of tizzy. I went to Dana Point the weekend after my birthday to try to recreate the feel of having an Asian Hawaiian chef and his wife make tuna poke. One of those foodie spots that foodies crow about... it wasn’t all that. In fact the fish was on the borderline of okay to serve. One day soon I will go to Hawaii to eat. So what you wrote resonated! Have fun.

Regarding the details, I don’t see the glue blob handles as being any issue at all. I have at least two Eduard etch levers that could use something extra. I was going to roll Milliput into balls and levers, actually.

If ya want poke, come down to my place in October and I’ll hook you up! Poke is very trendy in SoCal right now but I’d write off most of em because tuna quality is hard to predict. You can shoot ahi with carbon monoxide to turn it red so you have to look beyond color. It’s all about texture.

After initially resisting this project, I am starting to enjoy the new aspects of this subject. I’m already lining up little goals and targets in my head and I know I’m excited about a project when I start doing that.

That’s a deal! I was bummed because the reviews and photos generated a false impression of tuna greatness. I still remember seeing a photo of your catch being prepared in a marinade and thinking that looked better than anything I have ever seen and would send my taste buds into orbit.

I also think you have shaken some assumptions I made about what is possible to do with cockpit details. There are cockpit details which approximate reality but I feel you hit reality with your work to date. Also, perhaps the Luftwaffe breakthroughs from the Schwalbe will settle in even deeper with this American aircraft as your current project.

If you plan on doing some snorkeling...Hanauma Bay is real nice...but pretty busy. There is a spot, a bit right of center (in the reef) that you can get through....it's even better out there!!! My dad and I took a dive out there...sea turtles were all over the place. We had one follow us along for a good 45 minutes. In all our dives, I only saw one other turtle(elsewhere). Also, you can hike around the rocks below the cliff to the left...get around the point to the "toilet bowl" . Pretty neat!
Pupukea is another decent snorkeling area. Smaller and not as many fish as Hanauma...nowhere near as crowded though! TONS of urchins...watch your step!

Thanks for the Hawaii tips, Fermis! I won’t have time to snorkel but Hanauma Bay IS a great place to do that. Gonna spend most of the time hanging out with friends and family. May go out fishing on a friend’s boat but the weather may nix that idea. Checking out of the Moana Surfrider and heading to Hawaii Kai, where I grew up.
