Thanks, Carlos

Dude—Yes, that’s a good idea. Prices are riding higher than usual on the Bay, though—more than the price I paid for the kit itself. There’s a fella on eBay selling the two halves of the Fokker pairing as a set of four - $17.00 plus shipping! No way.

Now I realize that a good figure is basically another model but I’m seeing COX and Revell 1/24 figures going for 20 bucks. Even just the heads are going for a lot of coin. I’m not talking the Russkit sculpts from the Sixties with visible features—I’m talking just about anything from COX, Revell or whatever. That’s asking a lot for something I feel I could make with a ball of putty.

I wrote to Marc Tyler at Immense Miniatures asking him if he might do something in 1/28 for me. I haven’t heard back. I think he’s been on hiatus about as long as I was and continues to be. I purchased a pair of Russkit heads and a COX full figure (designed for the GT40) online from Electric Dreams. Let’s see. Maybe these will work!

The good news is the general level of construction and fitting is still on-going; I’m not bored by this kit. I like low parts and good vintage plastic. You definitely need to cut the locator pins, though. Keeping them is asking for gaps.

Schedule:

Engine paint job - parts in primer, color coat, metallic next

Upper and lower wing injection pin removal, flash clean up

Came across this a couple years ago on how to create realistic wooden propeller on WW1 aircrafts

Thanks, Tom!

I watched the video! Very informative, not one of his I have seen before either, excellent presentation, too! With a prop driven aircraft model, the viewer’s eyes are definitely drawn to how well the propellor is done; like the rigging it’s a component that determines a degree of competence in the project because it’s a bit of a challenge to simulate layers of wood using a painting effect.

Proper Planes makes fantastic wood props in 1:32 and 1:24

Those and their tires are beautiful!

Great updates on this project Bruce! I love the paintwork so far. Are you going to get one of those wooden props for this kit?

Thanks, Carlos!

He does make custom sizes but I’m going to try my painting skills out on the kit plastic, if possible. I’m actually trying to budget the cost of that kit and aftermarket at $50 and I have almost spent that. Fortunately for me I have an Amazon Gift Card burning a hole in my pocket as well since I wanted to try different types of rigging (AK, EZ) and monofilament line, too.

Do you have any thoughts on size for monofilament line?

Anybody?

:hmm:

I have only glued two parts so far—propellor crankshaft to firewall and seat to platform.
This is all pretty much “dry” fitting with some pieces of tape and a pleasant experience thanks to solid engineering by Revell.

I have used EZ Line and do like the product…. But…. I have seen the AK stuff at my work and am intrigued by it as a replacement product. They make it in at least three different diameters that are each most appropriate for certain scales.
