I keep chipping away. Tonight I adjusted the fit of the propellor to the shaft, drilling a longer hole because the blade was sitting a teensy bit too proud of the cowling. Then I masked off the propellor in a loose and easy fashion because I’m going to start the color coats first then switch to primer which I know is bass-ackwards but I want that red ball of a nose to be painted first then I’ll paint around it with 1500 Mr Surfacer White Primer. After that I’ll wait until the 12th when the AK Magic Color Sticks show up to try creating a stained mahogany center. For the linen blade tips I set aside my IGN Gray which I think I will follow up with Tamiya’s RAF Grey—Ocean Grey or Sea Grey? I need to make up the suggestion of a linen wrapper which must be tight as a tick to stay in place but still has dimension.

That was “Enemy Ace!” I’m adding to my portfolio these days.

Unfortunately it’s been too wet to use my balcony. The owner of the building won’t let me set up a patio umbrella or anything that will destroy the boxlike appearance of the structure or add any color. Similar rules for hanging art which I ignored. The result of no patio cover is a very wet and slippery surface area. I sweep the dust and more recently the ash away, but the painted concrete is completely smooth and at a slight downslope to facilitate drainage.

Well, if all goes well, you could be painting at the Hall tomorrow. If the rain holds off, we have a paint station behind one of our sheds and the hall has four compressors and three airbrushes on site. We'll see.

Propeller & Cowling Fitting & Joystick adjustments



This is in the BEFORE painting phase of the propeller. You can see how much I have thinned the proportions as well as filler. The round "nose" is shaped Milliput putty.



The joystick height is now more correct to the prototype. The pilot figure has the start of shoulders and will receive arms next. That may be the task next on my list of things to do.



I shortened the propellor distance to the cowling based on a walkaround published by LSP. I still think that might need to be tightened up a mm or two.

I know! What a week. I drilled out that propeller. It’s sitting close enough now. Much better than before. I sanded the cowling with 2500 grit and I’ll give it a goodbye blast of color tomorrow morning, hopefully with the first blast of red on the propeller itself, wild, man. I’m still going pretty strong on this but I do want to finalize the cockpit with the figure soon.
