1/48 Academy P-47N 507th FG (Little Meatie's Meat Chopper)

Post by lawdog114 »

Here I had a go at the 1/48 Academy P-47N. I did it in Oscar Perdomo's "Little Meatie's Meat Chopper" markings from the 507th FG. Perdomo flamed five enemy aircraft on the last day of the war, which made him the last ace in a day. The Academy kit is nice kit but it needed some work to reach Tamiya/Hasegawa standards. The 507th were B-29 escort so I shaved off the molded rocket stubs on the lower wing. It recieved a True details cockpit, Quickboost gun barrels, Eduard PE seatbelts and instrument panel and Ultracast wheels. The decals were Superscale. The Curtiss Electric assymetric prop was a Tamiya P-47 substitute.

I wired the R2800 as well. I used stryene rod and fine fuse wire. Here's how I did it.

I unfortunately no longer have this plane. It now belongs to Oscar Perdomo's nephew in California. Now that is gratification although somewhat bittersweet. I'll probably build this one again fairly soon.

Thanks for looking,
Joe

Joe, another outstanding piece of work. I really like the finish - you said that is a mix of a clear flat and thinner? I'm a gonna have to try that one.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Beautiful work! Gotta love the ultimate Jug! The cockpit and engine are the two points of this kit needing to be addressed, and you took care of both brilliantly! Nice back story on WWIIs final "ace in a day" to top it off.
