Energija/Buran, Reifra, 1/288

Post by tigrazor »

Hi folks...

This kit is something special. I grew up in the former GDR and the only plastic kit brand we could get (besides something from the Czech Republic etc.) was Plasticard. Well, I guess, most of you never heard of those. Lucky us that a company not so far away from my hometown dug the old forms out andstarted to reissue those plastic kits:

One of them is the "Energija/Buran", which I want to build. Its a real simple kit and as far as I know theres absolutely NO AM stuff. Funny eh? For me its as well a support of the local industry, if you can say so, and a fun project as always. Anigrand brought a pricey Buran shuttle, but its only the shuttle itself.

I started with the ramp:

Those memories from our childhood are priceless. Pretty cool they started reissuing those kits.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

VEB Plastikard! Heck yes, I remember those. When the wall come down the market overhere was flooded with Plastikard and KP kits. At absolute bargain prices, a guilder (we still had those) for a kit. I have build several of their kits. And Revell has some of there molds: be-6, il-4, g-24 can all be found in Revell boxes. How is that Buran kit?

:D

Lets say its a "Snap kit". The ramp is build quite quickly, the only negative thing - and thats a real PITA - are the unsharp photos. Two times I glued a part the wrong way and then I recognized it a bit later. NARF!!!

Plasticard was partly designed by Axel Dietz - responsible for later Revell kits like the MiG 21 F-13 (1/72) and the He 177 for example. ;)
