On and or near the bench right now...(in no particular order)
1/72 Hasegawa SBD w/ much A/M goodness!
1/72 AZ Models TBD (will be doing some scratchwork on this one!)
1/72 Dragon F4F w/ True Details pit
1/72 Dragon F6F (also an Eduard F6F, not pictured)
Another batch-o-birds
Re: Another batch-o-birds
Broke out the F4F as a little side project, to go along with the SBD.
True Details pit...
Dragon instructions....
...NO pit....NO engine...NO puting the gears in place...etc
In my haste to get this thing closed up....
That little window is supposed to go in that hole...from the inside, before closing it up......
There is a small amount of room, to go in through the pit, but I know I'da made a mess with some glue.
Then I thought...just glue em in backwards and sand down the excess....too much curve, no joy.
Gonna have to make my own...
Carved out a "window" in a piece of scrap, (just slightly larger than need be).
Bent the plastic over a pin vice (for the curve)...heated up some clear sprue and pressed it into the "window".
A little bit of carving and trial-n-error...parts CA'ed in place...
Snipped off most of the excess, then used a grinding drum to grind them down close...
Then used a finer grinding bit to get them even closer...
Sandpaper to finish them off, followed by a good polishing.
...a lot of time spent, for what should have taken about 20 seconds if I had put the kit parts in when I should have.

Look like you are recreating the whole us navy air fleet in one go. I like the creative solution for the windows.
Re: Another batch-o-birds
Nice recovery. What do you heat the clear sprue with?
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Hot heat!!!LyleW wrote:Nice recovery. What do you heat the clear sprue with?
Who'da thunk....a regular household candle would be an essential modeling tool?!!!
Re: Another batch-o-birds
Okay...... All I have is cold heat. Have to run to the store!

Every take-off has a landing...some are just better than others
Re: Another batch-o-birds
Wow...looks like preparations are being made to take that Judy out that you just built !!!
...this site is lucky to have such a prolific and skilled modeler posting on it!!!
Looking forward to seeing what schemes you have planned...
