What you have you never built in a kit?

Post by BlackSheep214 »

This morning while I’m on my courier route, I was thinking of all the military model kits I’ve done in all my 50 plus years in this great hobby. And what kits I have done but would like to do it again. Let’s hear what model kit you have never done and what kit you’d like to have another go at it.

Short list of model kits I have never done but would like to build one….

Fairey Swordfish
B-24 Liberator
Avro Vulcan
PBY-5
F-190 - have one in my stash
Mossie- have one in my stash
Tiger / King Tiger…. shocking, I know
Tirpitz / Bismarck German battleships
WW2 Japanese aircraft carriers and Yamamoto battleship
F-106 Delta Dart
B-25 Mitchell
F/A-18 Hornet / Growler / Super Hornet
Harrier

Model kits I have done in my younger years but do want to do another (short list)

F4U-1 Corsair - I will be ordering one soon
F-8 Crusader
A-4 Skyhawk
A-7 Corsair
Vintage Revell and Monogram ships from the 70s and 80s
B-26 Marauder
P-61 Black Widow - either the original vintage Monogram kit or a newer brand kit
F-14 Tomcat
F-15 Eagle
OV-10 Bronco
Dragonfly
1/72 vintage B-52 Stratofortress
Titanic
Sherman tank
USS Nautilus submarine

With armor i'd say it's shorter to list/show what I've built

This is it in the pic (long gone btw) + a toon tank Sherman and a commando jeep

Image

No military ships (subs yes, surface ships, carriers etc nope)

What I'd like to do in aircraft are wwii multi-engine bombers/fighters allied and axis. All I have in the stash is a mosquito and a Savoia-Marchetti SM.79-II Sparviero and nothing on the shelves.
As a kid I did b-17, b-24, b-25.

There's probably 80% or so of my stash I've never done - includes bikes, cars, aircraft and some odd-balls... oh, and a WWII surface ship - 1/700 HMS Glowworm. I had to order one when I read about it's story.
Thanks,
John

:hmm: While I haven’t quite built as many different models as say our own Duke Maddog in all the time that I’ve been building, I could put up a good “also ran” amount. However, in all that time, I’ve never built a single Italian warplane of any type… and I do have a handful of those in my stash. There are also several helicopter types that I’ve never built (CH-47, H-34, H-19, HUP, H2S, Mi-8/17, Mi-25), but would love to build. Some are in my stash now. Aside from the X-35, I haven’t built any post Cold War aircraft types… and again I do have several in my stash to build one day. Armor wise there are plenty of Soviet/Russian vehicles, from WWII to today that I have yet to build. Mostly because many of them were not available until within the past couple of decades. This goes for many non US vehicles from NATO allies such as West Germany, France, and the UK.

As far as kits that I built as a kid and I’d like to have another shot at are the Revell 1/32 Ju-87B in the desert scheme…. nearly all of the Monogram 1/32 AFV kits, most of which are long OOP… the ancient Tamiya Saladin armored car… there are probably a few more, but I can’t think of them at the moment.

What have I not built? Oh God - far too many to list!

What do I want to build that I've not before - that's a interesting question. Over the next few years I'd like to get and build (all stuff I've never built before)...

Challenger I
Chieftain M.10 in Berlin camo
Scorpion
FV432
Conqueror

Early M1 Abrams
M1A1
M113
M577
M...whatsit - the ITV TOW version of the M113
Sgt York
M60

M2 Stuart
Dragon Wagon
M3 Greyhound
M3 Lee/Grant
A lot of the self propelled and anti-tank guns. Hellcat, Archer, that kind of thing.
Matilda
Churchill
Cromwell
Daimler Armoured car.

Th8is is a good subject. Most interesting.

In my case, So far I have not built a WWII-era Gloster Meteor, the first operational type.

Others I have not done, mostly because there are no kits in my scale for them:

M60 Ontos
M198 towed artillery piece
Any of the Magach 5 or above
None of the more modern Zelda M113's
M557
Conqueror

And that's just to name a few
The Duke

We are modelers - the same in spirit, in hunger to insanely buy newly released kits, hustlers in hiding our stash from our better halves and experts in using garbage as replacements for after-market parts.

I just finished my Tamiya A6M2-N Rufe float plane a few months ago. That is probably my 'have another go at it' kit. Always wanted that float plane in my collection and I made an attempt at it a long time ago and more recently I tried to the Hasegawa 1/48 offering and that ended up in the circle file.

Monogram TBD-1
Monogram P-39D
Monogram B-25J
Monogram B-24J
Monogram B-29A
Monogram P-61A
Monogram F-84F
Monogram F-5F
Monogram A-4E
Monogram F-101B
Monogram Me-262
Monogram TBF & SB2C tri-color schemes
Ok, let's make this easy, basically I want to build or re-build all Monogram Aircraft kits of US Subjects :hmm:

And a few Revell kits that are dear to my heart...
Revell 1/32 P-40E
Revell 1/32 Huey gunship
Revell 1/72 PB4Y-1

Edit , Oh yea, Some Airfixers as well.
Airfix F-14A (1/72)
Airfix F-111A (1/72)

And just to round things out: Fujimi 1/72 EA-6A & Testors/Italeri F-5F Agressor

Well that is a few from my list
Big Joe: 'You just keep those Tigers busy and we'll take care of the rest.'
Oddball: 'The only way I got to keep them Tigers busy is to let them shoot holes in me...'

Oh yeah… that 1/32 scale Revell Huey Gunship. And… the Cobra chopper too! Fond memories building both in my younger years. I’d love to find them again.

I remember building the vintage Baa Baa Black Sheep F4U Corsair kit from the same TV show. Boy, did that kit fight me back then. :giggles:

That I want or wanted, to build? (didn't say finished)...Pretty much all I had access to was what the local drug store carried. Mostly Revell, Monogram and some Hawk kits. So, that is what I used my glass soda bottle refunds for.

I'd like to find a normally priced Phantom 1/32 Huey. Did one as a young teen and then shot it up with my trusty BB gun at some later point. I have managed to get many if not most of the kits I would like to build if time were unlimited...but, alas it isn't.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..
