I’m with you about globs of putty on a build. I have a putty application tool made by Squadron that I use like a butter knife for precise application of putty. It works pretty good for that task. As an aside, that is how my Dad taught me to form putty; very little top sanding. This comes from auto body shop training but it has stood by me in all model building. Get the putty as close to a righteous fit before it dries than do the subtle refinements. I'm still biting my tongue when I see any builder put globs of putty on a surface. To each his own, but I know this is best for me, which ultimately is what counts.

Revell’s interior part is a “V” shape when it really should be a flat pipe. I’m not really sure why this was fudged by them, but that choice made an accurate internal cockpit impossible unless the exhausts were cut off. I went to great pains to keep the original exhaust tips.

I shaped and glued the two exhausts in their new positions last night. I’ll most likely insert a piece of trimmed sprue from the kit to act as the go between. This tube won’t connect because of the module design but it won’t be visible I think. That’s still a question mark.

That's still a Revell part sticking out there which is oversized; it was the position that was mucking up the cockpit I am making but now that has been corrected as much as possible. I also built the the detail piece on the forward deck that holds that metal in place. You can see that as a thin black stripe over the putty. That also correctly locates the detail piece.
