What's the accepted behavior on constructive criticism?

Post by One-Oh-Four »

Hi guys,

Be assured, not a trolling question, but a serious one since there are differences of culture between forums.

My own rule is the same as stated in the forum rules: I (try to) treat others the same as I myself want to be treated. For me that means that I welcome constructive criticism of my builds. Even if I choose not to heed the criticism for whatever reason, someone who finds the thread at a later date may have a learning experience from the comment. But since not everyone is a clone of me (trust me, count yourself lucky!!! ), others may look differently upon it.

Please admins, mods; what's the policy?

- 1. Rather no criticism (if you dant have something nice to say, don't say anything)

- 2. Constructive criticism is allowed if everyone leaves their egos at the front door. Criticism worded as pointers / tips on how to achieve better results. Absolutely never become personal.

-3. As in -2. but first ask if the builder likes to get constructive criticism. If the answer is "no", then switch over onto -1.

As said before; as a builder I'm a "Possibility -2."-man. But since not everyone is the same I'd like to know what is the "Law of the Land"

Cheers,
Erik.

one oh four,
My personal opinion is that as long as it is not bullying, rude, profane, pornographic ( ) or otherwise, stupid, it is all fair to post. No one should be offended by constructive criticism as long as it is presented in a polite, professional and friendly manner.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

The color of the laser on your shark is too purple. It should be red.

It depends on what power source the laser had.

Thanks, guys, and especially Lyle (as moderator), that gives me a good mindset to what is acceptable.

As for Jim's reply rearding accuracy vs. build quality: I see that too. An accuracy statement can be of good value to the next visitor even if the builder himself doesn't do anything with it. It's also sadly too true that ego's tend to get bruised all too easily!

Cheers,
Erik.

"Build it how YOU like" has been a hallmark of this site. If a particular shade is all you have, use it! If you build OOB as I will do, that's what you get. If I get a criticism that shape is wrong, color is off, i'll thank them for the input, and like Jim, respond, that is what I chose to do and I'm happy with it.

I've not seen any stroke-inducing rivet-counting here. As you would expect, there are more concerned with complete accuracy, I salute you. I cannot build to that level. I 'm stuck on Fisher-Price sub-level 6. Even those that scratch the most amazing details don't criticize those who don't. That is what is so great about SPAM. To paraphrase, We build and let build.

Oh, Sharky, the laser was actually blue. Your color adjustment was off.
