A Whopping Big BIG Note of Thanks

Carlos, I really really REALLY want to thank you for following along. I also want to thank Blacksheep Tom and John Eaton as well. I want to add that all viewpoints matter. I am using the WnW instructions (not the build process or the detailing) but the instructions which are available online as a PDF as information. One of the main reasons I removed the fuel filler rims was because that was what was done as a field modification. The model building reason was simply because the circular impressions were off-center and interfering with the shaping process to remove the seam ridge. I am attaching the relevant page from the WnW instructions:

I find the explanations in all of the WnW kitsets to be most useful!

Tomorrow I will hopefully take the fuselage (which I have prepped) out on my apartment balcony and give it a quick squirt of light gray primer. I know I plan to use Mr Surfacer's 1500 white on the wings but I think I will start with a quick check in with gray (or is it grey with an E?). Maybe my best laid plans will change to light grey/gray primer overall due to the amount of sink marks, injection pin marks, flash and fit issues that need to be addressed.

Thank you kindly, Carlos! Big big news: Star Trek II was elected for inclusion in the Library of Congress’ NFR in 2024. FINALLY!
Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan was added to The Library Of Congress' National Film Registry, becoming one of 25 movies selected this year to join the database. When a movie is selected, the Library Of Congress stores it in its original format at the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center in Culpeper, Virginia. There, it is kept and preserved so that future generations can enjoy it in the decades to come.

Are these more injection pin marks?? They task me! They task me! Round and round and round, round and round, and not roundel we go! I think so. Let me know the answer. It must be so. The marks are present on both sides and guess what they are clearly visible in the box top photo of the assembled and painted kit.

This means what Blacksheep Tom wrote about early Revell pin marks being located in bad places (head butt, head butt) is absolutely 100 percent correct! Methinks it is a bit weird and wild to see these same injection molding marks also on the completed assembly photo on the kit box! For comparison, here’s the side view of the Smithsonian’s Sopwith. The original jpg had to be reduced in order to upload via Post Image. Here goes:

If I remember correctly, did jkim do roundels that can be seen thru fabric wing on the undersides? Gotta find that thread...

Thanks so much, Tom! Figuring out how to handle the roundels is another issue of course so having a great link to one solution is very helpful and very useful and very very important!

Fuselage Seam

Prime Time / Primer Time

I’ll begin with a macro close shot of the interior. I masked the bottom and sides because I knew I was going to have to address the injection molding pin marks on each side of the fuselage and I really wanted to see if a couple nights of night sanding work had paid off. Let’s see, shall we?

The step is gone! Huzzah! Finally. Smooth. It’s tough taming plastic and I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been away for quite awhile. I’m a bit too rough or I was at first. I ended up using fine wet/dry sanding grits to get a polished feel. Small note would be that the Revell sculpted finish is one of the best representations of canvas texture I have seen. I have a batch of Sopwith kits in different scales. It has the feeling of metal and canvas material on a wood framework. Bravo! Quite realistic! Score for the sculptor!

Seam! It’s there when I put pressure on both halves. I’m not sure if melting with “hotter” glue is the proper answer. Is it? I’m just not sure. I’ll usually remove locator pins everywhere to see if that’s causing an alignment issue. Ahh. Wait. Could it be that the interior cockpit platform plate is the issue? I must investigate further.
